Here is our summer project. Daniel is piloting the scooter in this video. This scooter worked so well we have done figure 8 races and drag racing with it! It's very fast, but can be even faster. Notice all of the safety gear!! It also produces nice brain concussions, even with a helmet. Our scooter has lean steering using a flat titanium spring. You just push the arm in the direction you want to rotate. Daniel has turned fast enough to pull the scooter up on just one wheel! The bar stool is for stabilizing the scooter as we get the bugs out of it. Our clone is also radio controlled!

    IIRC they are the T64 wheel chair motors used quite often in combat robotics.

    I think the Segway Corporation has all of the patents locked up. So I would not tempt fate by selling any part of this scooter. It is just a fun project.

    The problem is that the electronics still need a non moving reference. These electronics always know where the earth is. A gyro is relative only. It could work, but I think it would always end up falling over or chasing you around the driveway. Try it and see.
