Odissi dance-video shot near 64 yogini temple in western orissa (2006). Choregraphy by Ileana Citaristi. Dancers: Ileana Citaristi, Saswat Joshi. Direction: Susant Mani The film has three sloka from the SAUNDARYALAHARI, the tantric text dedicated to the female energy. The dance visually represents the ascent of the kundalini in its snake-like form from the Muladhara chakra upto the Sahasrara or the thousand petalled lotus where she sports with the male principle and her descent to her original abode, the Muladhara where she turns herself into a serpentine coil

What I fail to understand is why this piece is being labled as Odissi. Besides the fluidity of the piece and an attempt at chaulk, there is not anything 'Odissi-Like' here. Thank you.
Hi Dr. Citaristi. Thanks for this mind-blowing piece. I did not understand what was the watermarked image in the last frame at the very end of the performance. I am interested to know about that. Again, I am honored to witness such a beautiful attempt in Odissi. I believe, you have taken our two thousand year old artistic practice to an entirely new level. God bless.
2000 year old artistic practice? We have danced since the beginning of time! although, dance being alive, forms keep changing constantly, as we can see from this video.
