2. Today? A frantic speed out of sync with any rhythm (each individual and the whole cosmos in its individual subsystems have a rhythm), crudeness, and pandering to the lowest levels of tastes, and push down even the few who have better, that is socially elevating, tastes. The art of music and visual media has fallen into crass commercial hands, who are blockheads in art, aesthetics or social commitment.

in the few decades when Tamizh Thyagarajar was active composing devotional as well as cine songs (the latter work, he later is said to have regretted!), both of very high cultural quality, the aim of the film industry in TN (indeed in other areas of India, too) was to cultivate good taste in ALL people, both in music and living styles. And the effort succeeded to a very grat extent.
