Actually, the vast majority of Lincoln's available work prior to the Emancipation Proclamation was NOT anti-slavery. He may have felt more torn up about it than the average man of his age, but it wasn't until the the thick of the Civil War that he began singing a different tune, which many believe was mainly because the Union was getting its ass kicked. It's all politics. Now we have a mixed man as our President. I don't know about you, but hate crimes in my neck of the woods have skyrocketed.

I dont get your point. Lincoln was very opposed to slavery before the Civil War.
But, did he want to start a CW over it, of course not. Congress outlawed any further slave states in the west, the S knew they would end up in minority in Congress, which would ban it in S. They declared war.
All N states had abolished slavery by 1804, B4 most of the world.
