He's a child. As the song says, he wants her to look beautiful for Jesus. I know when I was little, when my mother was in the hospital, I would get her gifts and show her I love her. I doubt that a mother cares HOW her child shows her that he loves her, as long as he shows it in the best way that he can.

No I'd say the moral is a little boy that has been taken care of all his life by a mother he loves wants to take everything he has to give her a smile where there is pain. Its not the gift as much as the symbol of all he has laid at her feet.
