An excerpt of the Peking opera percussion workshop at Wesleyan on the Oct. 27, 2008. The ensemble includes Alec McLane (small gong), Joy Lu (cymbals), Joseph Getter (big gong), and Po-wei Weng (single-skinned drum). It is led by Po-wei Weng, a PhD candidate and adjunct faculty member at Central Connecticut State University. The clip includes a brief intro of the instruments, a short demonstration of the "oral notation" of the percussion patterns, and the percussion performance. Can someone please tell me the name of the small hand gong that is played with a stick? Is it a shou luo?
