Everyone wishing to send Hu Jia and Zeng Jinyan support, feel free to 'friend' https://twitter.com/freehujia

This isn't over.

04/03:
Why is Hu Jia in prison because of the Olympics?

Hu Jia was sentenced today in a bullshit trial to 3.5 years in prison. Blogging is not a CRIME!

The so-called six online essays that constitute Hu Jia's so-called "crime" were not produced during the trial, which means Hu was convicted in the absence of evidence. However, many people assume The Real China and The Olympics is one, if not the only one, of the essays on which Beijing's decision was based.

IOC, do you see the misery that Zeng Jinyan is in because of your decision to grant China the Olympic Games? Your decision, your responsibility. The world demands your explanation.

BOCOG, look closely at the misery you are complicit in: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacif...

03/01:
Zeng Jinyan is staying strong!
http://time-blog.com/china_blog/2008/...
She's also been given her mobile phone back. Call her at your own risk, maybe even put some money in her (China Mobile) phone: (+86) 13810673273.

02/08: Amnesty International is gravely concerned that the Chinese authorities are putting pressure on human rights activist Hu Jia to plead guilty to crimes against national security.

This comes on the day of the six-month countdown to the Beijing Olympics on 8 August 2008 and is the latest attempt by the authorities to silence domestic activists' public criticism of China's human rights record. http://www.amnesty.org.uk/news_detail...

02/06: Chinese New Year begins tomorrow. Zeng Jinyan and her nearly 3-month-old baby remain trapped at home with all communication to the outside world cut off.

It is unknown whether they have anything to eat. It is known that Hu Jia is being denied both access to a lawyer and medication for his life-threatening liver condition. Bloggers and petitioners have tried as recently as this week to bring food to Zeng's door but were not only denied entry, the food and supplies were not delivered, according to the state agents themselves. Last month one blogger sent Zeng a parcel of milk formula, but it was intercepted by police.

Journalist Ching Cheong has been released two years early on a five-year sentence for "spying"; great news in itself, now how about reversing the politicized charges against Hu Jia and numerous others. Like writer Lu Gengsong, himself just yesterday sentenced to four years in prison for state subversion.

Zeng's home address is #542, unit 5, tower 76, BOBO Freedom City, Tongzhou district, Beijing. BOBO Freedom City can be reached by taking buses #928 and 846, and there is also a direct bus from Guomao. Spread the word. Bring her baby formula at your own risk.

曾金燕的地址:北京通州区东果园BOBO自由城76号楼5单元542号。 322、342、728、938支4区间、928、846多路公交可达,国贸有班车。

  • go to hell

  • time to get Hu Jia OUT of hell

  • but it is really strange for jinyan to show a bilingual message to the police...

  • Strange because it looks like she has to appeal to help from abroad to protect her from her own nation's police? So I guess if it were you you'd just put up with it then.

  • @homunich I appreciate their efforts toward increased transparency in general, even if it their efforts are out-of-nowhere and after-the-fact, but given their apparent inability to back up their accusations with concrete fact, I think that until they can provide more than unqualified outbursts, they should post their comments elsewhere. For anyone who has paid attention to Hu Jia's situation, clearly his sources of funding, if any (remember, he was abducted for 6 weeks in early 2006 and has...

  • ...spent most of the time since then in various forms of imprisonment), were at no point an issue the Chinese government took interest in, as best evidenced by Chinese state and non-Chinese commercial media coverage of the court proceedings. If the support Hu Jia provided for AIDS orphans is such a problem for these guys, they should just make a video response and tell us all about it.

  • Tragic and outrageous! Individual liberty is the absolute BIRTHRIGHT of all! And NO-ONE can limit or infringe it in any way!

  • all western politicians together don't have the courage of Hu jia and his family.

  • yes

  • China, as a major nation of the world, as one of five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and as a member of the UN Council on Human Rights, should be contributing to peace for humankind and progress toward human rights. Unfortunately, we stand today as the only country among the major nations that remains mired in authoritarian politics.

  • don't be so sure!
