This particular sequence is exquisite, but it seems to have more in common with one of Feuillade's FANTOMAS episodes--can't remember the name of it at the moment, but it's the one that features a masquerade. The men masked as ravens/blackbirds and prominent at 1:00 are the FANTOMAS memory trigger.

Yes! Where are all of the films? Who's relegated them to litigation limbo?

The original was far more interesting to me (just my oppinion). You clearly saw where the creator of Batman got his inspiration.

Thanks for posting this sequence! I saw this around 1973 at a Surrealist film festival at the LA Museum of Art, and I've wanted to see it again ever since.

Right out of Max Ernst!

I saw the film about ten years ago at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles -- loved the surreal elements -- it was wonderful and unforgettable! Highly recommend it! I am buying the DVD -- I really searched for it for years!
