Kicking Horse Pass in the Canadian Rockies was discovered by James Hector in the 1850s. He was lucky to escape death when kicked by his horse. The Canadian Pacific Railway now crosses the pass. James Hector spend most of his life in New Zealand, where he was a distinguished scientist and explorer. This video clip was played at a symposium in Wellington on 8 November 2007 held to honour his memory.
