I agree with all the comments saying that Lang Lang overplays/overdramatizes this song. I don't like how the pace and volume changes all over the place... and his own little 'flourishes' don't enhance anything either. Something in between this version and Rubinstein's version would be perfect.
Well we agree there are no absolutes in art. His interpretation is just as valid as anybody else's. But I was precisely saying that I didn't' enjoy HIS interpretation of THIS piece. I said I cringed because, well, I actually did cringe. There is such a thing as putting TOO MUCH FEELING. The skill is in the dosing. I almost felt like when I hear kenny G on the saxophone...
Listen to Kissin or Rubinstein's version as someone else suggested and give me your honest opinion.
1:30 too sudden imho 1:35 to 2:37 he keeps slowing and starting, I cringed
I like Kissin's interpretation. It's way smoother and not mushy.
And jemokjemok, you're ridiculous. If you could only criticize someone if you're better then them, what would all the critics, journalists and football fans of the world do?
Admittedly, I am not a piano player. However, to say that you cringed because you didn't like his use of rubato? This is HIS interpretation of the piece, and he can play it how he wants to. Tempo alteration does not necessarily indicate some deficit in skill. Someone as talented as Lang could play this piece in a number of ways, but he can't please everyone. I just don't get the hypercritical nature of many piano students. You probably don't understand FEELING a piece, & play like a robot.

he has to spend his entire life with it so just let him enjoy it!
This was very... I don´t know what to say, didn´t like it. Shame he is like this, his technique is superb and everything.
