I am reading his biography "Voices in the Dark" it is a great story! His writing makes you feel like he is sitting with you sharing his story. I believe in him!
The "motivation" is based upon the evil of feeding off of one's "fear." If you think about it, most "ghosts" (familiar spirits) are one's that tend to strike fear into people, cause destruction, chaos, the breaking up of families, etc. - which is exactly what they want, and feed off of. Never does a familiar spirit become friendly with anyone. If they do, it's to deceive (especially small children) and cause chaos in the long run.
