i'm pretty sure they have a hard surface under their toes, otherwise they'd break their toes when they jump.

its called pointe. and it is somewhat uncomfortable until you get used it it. dancers feet are super incredibly thick and callused like you wouldn't believe. but mine swelled a lot when i first started out.
