The smooth melody in the background that starts at 0:43 to 0:54 is on the official site of the movie, just in another version.

Sounds so good that just like out of this Earth, which would be very accurate to the setting of the movie (Mars).

Wow, as I was listening to this, I actually thought I was listening to a John Williams score (i.e. E.T. or Indiana Jones). Well done, Giacchino.

I cannot stop listening to this Track. I love it. It has an energy that was missing from his Star Trek score...and the variety of themes and scoring techniques recalls his excellent Incredibles or Medal of Honor scores...

One of the best action cues from 2011, IMNSHO.

    Suspense Motif (Jehoshaphats)

    Narada Motif

    Sacrifice Motif

    Unknown Motif

    Main Theme: B Theme

    Finale Theme

Of course, they are not as apparent on the slim pickings on the album, but on the Deluxe Edition, (or the unofficial recording sessions)

Which theme are you referring to?

    There is:

    The Main Theme:

Giacchino's original intentions were not to have the fully orchestrated version appear until the first shot of The Enterprise in space, but in the final film it appears over the Main Title (as the music is tracked from the Enterprise reveal scene). After that it is used very often in the score, never going more than a few cues without reappearing again.

    Nero's Theme

    Spock's Theme

    Cadet's Theme

    Vulcan Theme

    Continued:

Giacchino hits that same theme over and over again throughout the whole movie. Whether it's an action scene, a love scene, a sad scene, or an heroic scene - that exact same piece. It's like Coldplay. Say you like that song they play over and over, but don't say there's variety.

Uh, if you are saying there are not any themes in ST2009, you don't know what your talking about.

This guy has to score Episode VII (assuming, of course, that Williams won't/can't).

Maybe so, but it does not show in his music. John Williams is the one-trick pony in my opinion.

Variety of themes - the lack of which produced a quite dull soundtrack for the last Trek movie. Right on target there.

Maybe if the TV ads had said "Most soundtrack track titles are puns!" the box office numbers would've been better...
