Got you! Luckily my laptop's 64-bit so I should be okay with SV 12. Again, thanks for your help. Working with still photography and various Adobe applications haven't prepared me for working with video.

There are way too many variables with Video, which adds greatly to the learning curve.

If you can be patient and learn the basics well, it makes doing complicated stuff a lot easier.

    All the best :)

In ALL my older videos I have been using Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 or 11.

HD 11 is only the basic version of Vegas and has no Customization ability.

Please note that your OLD computer is more than likely a 32bit computer, so you want be able to use the 64bit version of Movie Studio.

However, Movie Studio Platinum 12 still comes packaged a 32bit version of the newer program.

Yes, my laptop is quite old (a VAIO VGN series with a Pentium T4300 processor), so that might be the problem. I also note that your video uses Movie Studio 11--the same as mine--yet some of the sub-menus are not in mine, e.g., the Customize Template when rendering. Strange. I've just ordered V12 so I'll see how I get on with that. Again, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. You've helped a lot.

ONLY Movie Studio versions have the New Project Wizard.

Vegas Pro assumes you have more knowledge and can set your Project Properties manually yourself.

The software is not the problem.

It's the processing power of your computer that may cause some problems with extreme playback lag.

If you have a good CPU, .mov files should play back no problem at all.

However, if you want maximum performance, I would suggest upgrading to Movie Studio Platinum 12 (or Suite version).

    V12 is now a 64 bit program.

A 64bit program on a 64bit computer has a lot more processing power.

HD11 is the most basic version of Movie Studio and only a 32 bit program.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's great and has helped clear that up. Quick question, I've read that using H264.MOV files (which my DSLR uses) is actually problematic with Vegas Movie Studio HD 11. Is there any truth in this? One site suggests changing them to MPEG2. I've gotten the hang of the software but the technicalities re compatibility etc. are a steep learning curve.

Great videos by the way. Very helpful.
