is there a special fabric for this can i just go to joan's or sometign like that?

I recommend a knit jersey, for this particular carry with a tiny baby. It should have some stretch, but stability. To check fabric pull it one direction, and then another- it should stretch about 1" in either, but spring back.

Or-- check out the Moby Wrap-- its a great stretchy wrap! :D For bigger /older baby a woven fabric is the best for more support, I like the Ellaroo, or Gypsy Mama brands for economy, and Storchenwiege or Didymos for more pricey wraps. :D

I would definately get the full video as it as tons of useful information and they use live babes not demonstration dolls so you know how to handle a real live baby :)
