Yeah, you'd definitely need to use product to get some grip and add body by blowdrying and using rollers. Professional stylists don't do all that prep for nothing. =]

Curlers aren't just simply for adding curls or waves to your hair. In this case, they're used to add body and lift to the hair so it's easier to work with later.

It's time consuming but that's what gives movement to your hair. Otherwise, the hair will be too stiff to bend into a chignon and you'll end up with lots of flyaways. You can roll your hair when it's still damp and let it dry that way instead of styling then rolling.
