Effexor Baby's Grieving Mother Protests Potential MOTHERS Act, Warns Others
Contact: Amy Philo, Founder, UNITE, 817-793-8028

SALT LAKE CITY, April 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian Delahunty blames Effexor for the September 2008 death of her six-week-old daughter Indiana. To those responsible for pushing Effexor on Christian and similar drugs on pregnant women across America, that may be "impossible" to prove.

Only with that mindset of denial could someone justify pushing for the passage of federal legislation called "The MOTHERS Act," which would increase the use of psychotropic drugs in pregnant and new mothers.

In 2007 Delahunty approached her doctor about whether she should stop taking Effexor because she wanted one more baby. He told her, "Oh no, you and the baby will be fine. There are no studies that prove that the Effexor is even transferred to the baby in utero or in the breast milk."

"Milk-to-plasma ratios" greater than 1 indicate that a medication is present in higher concentrations in breast milk than in maternal serum. Effexor's milk-to-plasma ratio has been observed at over 4.7 and is therefore not recommended for breastfeeding. Neonates cannot metabolize drugs as quickly as older babies or adults, they absorb more of the drug, and can have 10 to 30 times higher brain tissue concentrations than adults.

According to the Effexor label, animal studies of the drug during pregnancy and continuing through weaning resulted in an increase in stillborn pups, and an increase in pup deaths during the first five days of lactation. In a study of 150 pregnant women exposed to Effexor, 18 had miscarriages and seven had "therapeutic" abortions, while two of the babies had major malformations.

When Indiana was born, she had trouble breathing, scored low on her APGARs, and wouldn't cry. Indiana had to go to the NICU and returned to the doctor's office and hospital several times after going home for various health problems. Christian says Indiana was excessively sleepy and nearly impossible to feed.

On September 7, Christian nursed Indiana at 8 am and then put her down for a nap. Christian went back in at 10 and found she was not breathing.

Indiana was rushed to Children's Hospital by paramedics. The staff was finally able to revive her after 45 minutes and she spent the next five days on life support. But it was too late. Her brain had badly deteriorated. She died on September 13.

  • Do you see the writing on the walls people? This woman, if her story be true, was counseled to never have children again! Does this not sound like something very ominous? A faint harkening back to an age of eugenics, perhaps? Well, it is articulated with much subtlty here, in these United States, but the discourse is the same: The MH profession has managed to insinuate itself in our lives. They have our children, and they have you, right where they want you.

  • Yes, the video is true.

  • From my understanding it takes 6 weeks for you to even feel the effects of Zoloft. But according to my friend on Prozac there is a few week period where you can become agitated. The only thing I noticed on it are strange dreams. I don't know I guess it works differently for some people.

  • That's the same line I got from the shrinks to brainwash me into staying on the drug for several weeks to wait for it to work and that was their excuse for the homicidal thoughts. They claimed it could not be the drug because of that. The FDA warns that when starting a dose of SSRIs people may become suicidal etc. It's simply not true that because some people say to wait 6 weeks for it to "work" that it has no effect on you for six weeks. It's in your body and exerting its effects right away.

  • YouTube is not working correctly for me, but someone commented that they thought Zoloft doesn't "work" for 6 weeks but someone else told them that Prozac "works" within a few days and they didn't know. This was just my reply to that comment.)

  • Caring brings tears of bitterness. I'm so tired of crying. Why do I care so? Because I have been through nearly 12 years of over medicating and was told by my doctor, "Ms. A, You will never be well". I sit here and tell you that ONLY after I stopped taking antidepressants am I in wellness. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE PRESCRIBING. Only and only after I looked up the Cymbalta & Effexor, and it came up MAJOR MAJOR DRUG INTERACTION did I stop taking meds.

I sit in wellness & ready to fight.

  • Thanks for speaking up. I do so regularly to encourage people with mental illness, like me, to find healthy ways to balance their brain. After years of resistance to medication, I became desperate and gave in. I became a guinea pig for a psychiatrist. Eventually I listened to my own body and stopped medication in a way I felt was safe and appropriate. This may not be everyone's path, but it was mine, and I am so grateful. Today, I regulate my BPD through exercise and diet. Education is key!

  • You are my hero. Psichiatry erased from the face of the earth now.

  • OMG Made me cry! God bless you & your beautiful family. Pray you are safe from retaliation.. You are right. I am so happy you listened to your heart. Depopulation plays a big part in this. Sometimes I think no one should have children in this messed up world. This is a perfect example. I fear for what they will experience. Great post & much success!

  • wow I never herad of this before.. thanks for posting

  • I dont know how I happened upon this video... but there was NOTHING wrong with you. Your baby was blue. Anyone that doesn't get a little crazy from that is the one that needs to be put on drugs. My dr suggested paxil when I was pregnant b/c I was NUTTTTTS but I didn't take it (can't really swallow pills anyway). Now all these kids have severe problems from moms taking it.

I say smoke a bowl when ya get that wigged out (unless it's from your baby being blue) ; )

  • If people actually did some research on some of these psych drugs they would find that these drugs do not actually correct any "chemical imbalance" in the brain at all. To the contrary. Most of these drugs are based from poisinus sodium flouride. To put it bluntly flouride is poison. And just like flouride drugs like Prozac DESTROY certain parts of the brain. Of course you feel better. You are deactivating crucial parts of the brain. RUN FROM ANTI DEPRESSANTS!! RUN!! STAY AWAY!!

  • who cares about your stupid family. the doctor going on a hawaiian golf trip sponsored by the drug company is what matters. he's gonna have a bitchin time. booze, coke, hookers. the works. take your meds and quit whining.

  • i get this so completly. i suffer from bp and choose counseling and other management stratgies over meds as meds only brought more misery to me. they always seemed to make things worse instead of better. my counselor still brings up meds sayin bp only gets worse with out them but in my experience its always ALWAYS been the exact opposite. so i flat out refuse.

  • Modern pharmaceuticals and the doctors that push them the real quacks.

  • This is y I wanted a natural birth !! Doctors can not be trusted these days let's just all pop pills to fix everything instead of actuly tryin in life n knowin lifes not always a walk in the park!!

  • omg ... i can relate ..my intrusive thoughts and obsesssions started almost 2 years ago.. my son is 15 mo old now. I was pregnant at the time.. and i went on zoloft 50 mg when Nevan was a baby 2 wks old ( and i bf ) and thy upped it to 75 after a few mo, and my thoughts and anxiety and thoughts have grown into full blown ocd. i am tapering off the zoloft myself and am seeing a psychiatrist asap. i might want to try natural ways to relieve this. :( i cried watching this..what a beautiful family.
