In the English language we use the word "was" to refer to something in the past. So, by saying "...our president WAS a ninja..." it actually makes sense. And on a different note, even though someone is no longer president, they still keep that title. For example, President Clinton, or President Bush. The title is permanent. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with the comment. You're just ignorant
