DivX and XviD are NOT the same.

if you say that it does support XviD, then you should've played a XVID video.

Even if I was playing a XviD movie, the information screen will still state that is it encoded in "DivX" as the PS3 does not "officially" suppoert XviD - only DivX.

Yes. PS3 supports both Xvid and DivX.

well.. I've tried it, and it says that it's an unsupported format, and I have the latest firmware...

what the hell...

The PS3 is very picky about what files work and don't work. If the file you are trying to play is old, try recoding it and playing it again.

Use the divx encoder or look for a free third-party program.
