@jeffeagle8 I never said that that every one in America only speaks one language but the majority of the nation does. The main reason I'm pissed of and arguing here is because Americans patronize other countries alot, especially in media. You can clearly see this attitude in xKILLZONAx comment.
Some of us do.
What you say is largely true, but that doesn't mean every American is like that. So instead of making sweeping judgments, I suggest that you treat people on a case-by-case basis.
@jking: served english on a plate???? Try this: learn english, german and french, in oh, let's say, 3 years? And speak/write your native language flawlessly? No offense; but that's hard work! ;-)
jking700 are you saying that people that learn another language when their kids dont have to work as hard to do it? Thats bullshit. Kids in other countries usually slowly learn the language in few years and its not easier for them in any way.
No offense, but I assume you don't speak any languages that you haven't been forced/coerced into studying at school. What I'm saying is the education system in most english speaking countries doesn't allow for that option(except maybe spanish in the US). You'd have to learn it in your own time, actively searching for contact with the language, etc.
