Bizarre colorful (luminous/glowing) cloud phenomenon in the sky was observed about 30 mins before the May 12, 2008 Sichuan earthquake took place. This was recorded in Tianshui, Gansu province ~450km northeast of epicenter, by someone using a cell phone. source: http://news.qq.com/a/20080513/004283.htm
These clouds seemed to be glowing or somewhat luminous and seemed to resemble some characteristics of the Auroras. I am not sure exactly what they were or whether they indeed had anything to do with the quake. I am no expert anyways. See if any scientists are willing to give a full explanation.
If such phenomenon can be proved for its connection with earthquake occurrences, maybe they could be used as warning signs and would be life saving. If not, just learn these clouds as yet another rare atmospheric phenomenon and no need to panic when seeing them.
After all, this might well be just a rare atmospheric phenomenon occurred by coincidence. Though, just wondering if there's any possibility the formation of such rare clouds be catalyzed by any event??

Oh I get it! The earth is broken up into plates wearing wool socks. They slide against the polyester mantle, which covers the concrete slab that is the core. Fascinating what folks can come up when they are too damned lazy to look up the real answers. Look up the following: 'sun dog', plate tectonics, faults in China, history of earthquakes in China, piezoelectric effect, structure of the earth, the difference between static electricity and the piezoelectric effect etc., etc.
I agree with people talking about the HAARP and stuff like that, I'm most concerned with the fact that we have reached the point where people can now create earthquakes, we are reaching into the end of our own world, one missxalculation of the HaArp and the entire world could be destroyed
there are still people that do not believe that earthquakes and tsunamis cant be created by the government and when you try to tell them they think you're crazy thats what i call IGNORANCE
when you walk across the carpet in your socks, electrons are rubbing off the carpet and flowing into you and charging your body, the electrons flow into the most conductible body, so while the plates are scraping, there is mass migration of electrons into the most conductive formations of rock. These charged areas create huge magnetic/electrical fields, which would charge oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the ionosphere or something.
that's interesting about the pisoelectric idea, that's probably what it is, or just like walking across the carpet, you build up a charge, same thing when the two plates are rubbing together, it creates large areas of charge, and thus creates large magnetic/electrical fields.
