They are celebrating because they are astronomers who just witnessed the BIGGEST impact that mankind has seen, it also shows what Jupiter does best: attract and absorb objects big enough to wipe us out, the last time a meteor big enough to wipe us out hit was 65 million years ago, i think we're safe for a long time
