The Beach Boys stole this song from him.
He sued the beach boys like 20 years ago.

Saying who stole the melody or lyrics from a Chuck Berry song is a moot point. I grew up in that era and Chuck Berry was a monster rock n roll star. He didn't need any help from anyone.
When a Chuck Berry song was released every teenage kid alive had to have a copy. Berry sold hundreds of millions of records.

Da kann Michael Jackson einpacken, dieses Furzwürstchen. Chuck Berry ist eben hundert Mal mehr Musiker als hundert andere in dem Geschäft.

@harwo041 The Beach Boys didnt rip off Chuck Berry's song because he was black. The Beach Boys knew of Chuck Berry's importance in RnR, and Im sure the initial idea was to pay tribute to Berry. Of course Berry was right to get songwriting credits, the song is Sweet Little Sixteen-but its not the first time an artist takes a basic melody and writes another hit song from it. Berry himself did the same thing with Maybellene.

I would respectfully disagree.
While it's appropriate to recognise (and applaud) the positive effects of the music, it's also appropriate to make sure that the originators receive their due(s). This is an opportunity to discuss race relations, capitalism, and how the historical record is often blind to (and sometimes glaringly bereft of) facts.
Keep in mind that many post-Baby Boomers still do not know about this stuff.
