Being born in 1954, seeing this war every night on TV in the 60's 70's, and fortunate enough to be NOT drafted, I want to thank and wish blessings to EVERY Viet Vet out there and those who died in this foolish war, my solace to their familes. To this current generation, who HAVE NO DRAFT to worry about, consider yourselves DAMN LUCKY there is a professional volunteer army to protect us and our allies throughout the world.
Thanks Neosmndrew. I work with men/women aged 20 - 25 and their self absorbtion, hedonism and ignorance of world affairs is shocking to me. I often wonder if there was a draft, would this generation stand up and protest this as ours did ? I hope we never have to find this out.
In my MCJROTC classes, my ex-girlfriend's leadership speech was about the man who helped to liberate Poland from the Soviet Union. I didn't get his name, because she is incredibly quiet. And I have to say, every time I hear about another abuse of Poland, it just pisses me off. No country should be subject to that kind of abuse from foreign nations. I'm glad the US hasn't felt the pain of communism, but I can only imagine how horrible it all must be. Greetings from the USA.
Yes! What a pity that when Poland, the christian bulwark for centuries, who alone and sigle handed stopped the Turkish advance, was invaded by Germany, only England stuck to its agreement and, in turn, declared war on Germany! And let's not forget what Russia did to that poor, heroic country! I was obviously too young byt my mum used to tell me that when Italy was liberated, they usually had Pole officers to play bridge at home and that they all were handsome young men and perfect gentlemen!
We also know, that in an Army famous for its bravery, they were considered lions! They finally managed to wrest Monte Cassino from the Germans and in the Polish cemetery its written thus: "Here lie the soldiers from Poland that left their bodies to the soil of Italy, their hearts to Poland and their souls to God! I can't help but crying every time I go there and indeed am crying this very minute!

My dad was in the same boat as you and has lectured me about how lucky I am. I too appreciate the all of the men and women fighting for my freedom.
