Not pretentious, just King Crimson, Peter Gabriel-Genesis, Yes, Pendragon, Marillion, Rush, UK, Zappa and a few more can make it (without repeating the same chorus hundred times, as beatles).

If you consider the mind-numbing King Crimson or Peter Gabriel "progressive"....well, that's all I need to know. A few borrowed polychords that drone on for 15 minutes doesn't make it....unless pretentious is your thing? methinks it is.
