She has better recordings of this...This recording she was shaky and pitchy. Goodness I kind of had a hard time listening. Pillar and Renata suit this role better.

All very interesting and agreed with. If she was ill or tired, man does she make a good job of it. Imagine what she would do on top form. Have a look at her late 4 last songs with Solti and even Arabella.

one of the most charming, thrilling sopranos of her day...a creamy voice, terrific actiing skills and effervescent stage presence

Not to be compared to the great Tebaldi,
but her interpretation is beautiful.

True that but I dont think Tebaldi or Lorengar would have done this running a temp and sick like Kiri was. Kiri is noted for that...she would sing until she was burnt out and almost dead. Still, NO ONE hold a candle to Tebaldi in this just like Kiri's Countess Almaviva or Donna Elvira.

I can tell she isn't feeling well or maybe tired. But still wonderful

I think it was said in her bio that she wasn't feeling well at that time. She was suffering from what we call 'burnout' from the sudden increased demands on her to perform everywhere, after she sang at the royal wedding.

Just listened to this after Pilar Lorengar and Renata Tebaldi. They are both superb, vocally and emotionally. The beginning here is sloppy (the glottals!) but she improves. The last note is under pitch. Maybe this too low for her? I have videos of her Rosenkavalier and Otello: both of which are well sung and acted. This video does not do her credit.

Yes! There is no one quite like them singing today. Can't get enough of Lorengar... wish she had been filmed more often.
