I watched this movie and flags of our fathers in one sitting last night. I thought they were both excellent. Both protray war for what it really is: ugly, and not heroic at all. Those poor American marines, having to take ground against The Japanese who refused to surrender and fought to the last man. And the poor Japanese soldiers, fighting for their lives and their country, being forced to kill themselves with grenades by their officers because they believed there was no surrender. Terrible.
