In the manga, it was more obvious that she wanted to be in space. I think she really did sign up in the anime but regretted it. I love any part where it shows the rain...It's so pretty.

because its targeted to high school kids so why not make a girl go to space XD it b just as sad if a soldier goes and her husband or boyfriend stays

well, no....remember she said she WANTED to do this, i mean she wasnt forced to do this against her will...

In part 1, Noboru said that she was selected by the UNSF, which implies to me that she was drafted.

Besides, if she loved Noboru as much as the whole story implies, it doesn't seem to me as if she'd want to leave him especially for a situation where she might die and really never see him again.

Right before she and the fleet first encounter the Tarsians near Pluto, she's writing in her mail that she doesn't think the fleet will find the Tarsians. She definitely would rather be back at home with Noboru.

I also don't think she has much of a warrior's spirit, even for all the damage she causes in the end.

because in some magic-nonsense-kind of way only the youngers can pilot this things, and a pre-trining will be more than enough

same here , it requires you to dream to enjoy the dreams of others

the question is why use students when you could use trained soldiers who are older and are prepared for this kind of stuff
