If you couldn't play drums with a set-up like this you should have cut off your hands!! Sonny Payne was OK but just happened to be in the right place at the right time!

can anyone tell me who were some of the principle memebers of the basie orchestra in the year 1966. i ask this because in that year the basie group recorded live with sinatra at the sands in vegas. you should here their version of "luck be a lady". they really swing hard.

I've said it before on this video but it's worth saying again: Sonny Payne is absolutely on fire on this song. When it's just kind of simmering down low, he just lays it down plain and simple for the band. When it's all built up, he likes off fireworks with his drums the way he's playing with them.
