Yes! this is what we need on TV. Look how far TV Land has went into the toilet.High School Reunion--She's Got The Look-and the absolute bottom of the barrel-The Cougar. A new Classic TV channel is DEFINITELY in order.
"The Big Chill" and "American Graffiti" have warped the sense of reality about the totality of that decade. The best era. at least in America, in terms of prosperity and happiness, was actually in the 1950's and early '60's. It's been downhill since.
There were many more kids who didn't go to protests, wear bell-bottoms or take drugs. The average American kid then looked more like David & Julie Eisenhower than a hippie.
Also, before 1965, more of America still resembled "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Mayberry" and "Leave It To Beaver" than "Sonny & Cher." or Woodstock.
Even so, in terms of "relevance," don't forget, so many persons have been born since the 1960s that now rock & roll seems as square to some kids today as vaudeville or Lawrence Welk did to the older folks of today, who were young in the 1960's.
Even as one who was a boy in the '60's, I am, frankly, sick & tired of the over-romanticizing of that era, that only the hippie part of that decade is remembered (or shoved down everyone's throat by the media and Leftists with a mission)..
Of course more "Baby Boomers" would likely recall The Animals, but not as much as The Beatles. And even The Beatles are very overrated, especially "Sgt. Pepper's," the so-called most important record ever made."
For one thing, that record, along with Bob Dylan, was responsible for rock criticism and the self-importance of rock & rolls entertainers, who thereafter began calling themselves "artistes. But The Beatles biggest contribution was over by 1966, really only a few years.
Still, Burdon & The Animals have been largely forgotten, even if many people remember their cover of "House Of The Rising Sun" from oldies radio or film soundtracks.
Actually, in the '80's, former New York Dolls' frontman David Johansen, a/k/a "Buster Poindexter," recorded a very authentic Animals medley.on a live album released in his own name under the title "Live It Up!" I recall "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "It's My life" and "We Gotta get Outta This Place" as the songs in that medley..
I don't think The Animals are very relevant in the 21st Century. But then, very little rock & roll is in this era of hip-hop, middle of the road ballads and "American Idoldom."
Although lead singer Eric Bordon, along with Mick Jagger and Van Morrison, comprise a trio of the best, most soulful, white male, r&b singers from Great Britain in their heyday.
And the group did make the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. But that's more an industry thing.
