I have to admit I don't think I've ever heard this piece before. It seems to me that there is no limit to the depth of the music of Bach! Is this work part of a series? Truly wonderful!
Too bad, we don't get it all. No date-boy was he young here. Along the way i have had problems with later more romantic music with him-although I have enjoyed his Beethoven, and his lectures on the sonatas-but his Bach always a winner. Not a well know piece-I used to hear Roslyn Tureck play it often-it was a favorite of hers, and she really went to town with the concluding fugue- arare piece of program music from Bach
I couldn't agree with you more, even as I hate to do so. His new(er) recordings lack the artistry of his younger years. Have you ever heard his recording of Schumann's Humoreske?

Genius! I ADORE his recording of Bach's English Suites and this is simply tear jerking.
His ornaments on the gavotte from English Suite No.3 shows how ultimate Baroque improvisation has to be done...
