YES. I'm not exactly sure why, but it probably has to do with the fact that Cantonese has more tones than Mandarin does.

It's still important when singing, but not so much as it is in speaking, because a different intonation (there's seven of them, if I remember correctly) can mean a different word. Just keep listening to the song and you'll start to get it!

I can spell it out phonetically for you. The transliteration is very hard to read if you don't know how to. :D

sun nung lerng (a very light "r" sound) z/joi (a cross between the two) sun been (long e sound) wing hung but been (long e again) yu nei serng seon

It's very hard to romanize the last word, because the sound doesn't exist in English. Just listen to the song and you'll get it!

"san nang loeng zoi san bin, wing hang bat bin" This phrase is always very catchy and hairstanding when I listen to it.
