Kwan Riam (ขวัญเรียม): This is one of my favorite old Thai songs. I found this orchestral version on a tape called "Maitai 3: Under the Candlelight" in Thailand in 1991. A movie titled Kwan Riam came out in Thailand in 2001, but I haven't used any pictures from it. This song was performed by the Maitai Orchestra, directed by Dnu Huntrakul (ดนู ฮันตระกูล).

Plae Kao (Thai แผลเก่า, Old Scar in English), a 1977 Thai movie starring the legendary Sorapong Chatri and directed by Cherd Songsri. It's a Thai Romeo & Juliet story: Boy (Kwan) and girl (Riam) swear undying love for each other but their families don't get along. Girl is sent away to the city and adopted by a rich matron. Boy tries to win her back but dies in a dramatic fight with villain who also wants her. The ending made audiences weep and weep.
Plae Kao has been remade more than once, but none of the remakes holds a candle to the original. Sorapong was quite young then but so very good. The actress who played Riam, Nantana Ngaokrachang, only did that one movie and then relocated the the U.S.
You know a lot about this movie. I agree at the end of movie weep and cry their eyes out. I was cry when I was young too. Great movie and best sad song of all times.
OMG! What's a beautiful music.. I have not heard this music for over 30 years...It was a famous song when I was a little kid. The original first movie made everyone in Thailand cry.
I wish someone in Thailand would upload the song with words for me. I could not find it on Youtube..
