Did you know that Hugh has as great a vocal range as Whitney ( 3 plus octaves) but he doesn't do all that banshee thing. He intellengentally layers it. . If you listen to the waltzinblack and four horsemen background he is surely choral.
The Rattus Norvegicus LP was in my small town Oregon town library in 1978 (but I was already into punk). "Hanging around" still makes me feel like I'm a revved up teenager-- one of my favorite all time songs. Unfortunately missed out on seeing the Stranglers in London in 1987; maybe I'll still have a chance.
THAT bass' sound is EPIC. they are but unknown in america, only their 80's hits got attention here. in the punk era, with Wire and Gang of four they were the avant-garde punkers.
Great Band, one of the Best of that Era. Saw them in Sydney in 1978, Some dumb fuck decided he would take a stage dive into the crowd, trouble was, they all parted and the dropkick hit the deck. Probably still got a headache. LOL. Thanks for the memories.
LOL I'm 43 myself and they were my favorite band growing up. IMO they were intellectuals in punk disguise. I loved D.G.'s classical playing but it was Burnell that really set the mood.
