An interesting if not disturbing analogy. However i do not believe it to be true. The flute of pan was a brilliant observation though. I love how ethereal the middle section is. Very avant garde. Very interesting exercises. I sure loved Greg's singing. Fripp is always a trip. Giles is, as always brilliant. My all time favorite Crimson album.
I think that the king Crimson is in really a representation of the devil that the 21th century schizoid man meets after his death...in fact at the end of last song of the album you can hear a flute...the flute of Pan, a god used by pagans to symbolise satan...iif it's so , it's very creepyXD
Actually, this song has been theorized that The Moonchild is actually The Moon, and if you listen to the lyrics it makes sense and gives very detailed and beautiful metaphors to think about.
Anyway, It has also been said the Jazz part of the song (2:20 up) are making musical parts of what the lyrics have said, in order.
I forgot where I heard this from, but the person who wrote the article also said it was the masterpiece of all music.
Drums on this - in fact on all of ItCotCK - are from another planet. I think Giles doesn't like them, but he's just dead wrong: I've NEVER heard drums sound like this on any other album, of the era or later. Still blows me away.
I have the original 12 inch album bought by myself in 1969 so there, and yes it still scares me in it`s creativity. They did manage to follow it with Wake of Poseidon which is just as spooky ( got that too ):)
I don't know if the title of this song was influenced in some way by Aleister Crowley's novel, MOONCHILD. I would suspect so, but I am also a skeptic and a cynic and this is one of the reasons why I ask questions. This is a beautiful, trippy piece.
There was always a tinge of the occult surrounding KC, and I'm pretty sure Fripp was into Crowley and Tarot early on, before he discovered Gurdjieff and the Fourth Way. . . probably Sinfield too.
