Katia is sooooo pretty~~~ She's my 2nd favorite female skater (behind Michelle Kwan) and I love how light her skating is. From the movements of her hands to the lightness of her footwork.

I was wondering, can someone explain me what's the difference between before and after you become a professional skater? (i don't know the exact term for before, sorry for my english... Lol)

Amateur skaters can skate in the Olympics, but they can only earn a limited amount of money from skating. When you turn professional, you can earn as much money as you want, but you can't skate in the Olympics.

I thought pro could, so that's how Gordeeva and Grinkov won their second Gold Medal at the Olympics...

That was an experiment that the ISU tried once (just in 1994), but they changed the rules back so that pros can no longer skate in the Olympics.
