I saw both versions. I like the Original Japanese version more. But I do have to say that I was entertained with the Remake of this movie. It was enjoyable and I enjoyed it.
NO! This movie was such a pain! It took all the charm and humor out of the original and twisted it! The original was nice and sweet but this movie tried to copy every scene, changed things that didn't need to be changed, took out the atmosphere of the entire film and twisted it into another American money maker with no real context of how perfect the Japanese version was. The only flaw with the Japanese version was maybe the sub-par acting but that was nothing compared to the excellence of it.
I agree. But the problem with the remake was that it was *too much* like the original. You can't take Japanese mores and put them in an American context - it doesn't make sense.
