This song is really sad just inside its terrible Beauty. I see it as a metaphor of Life. May be "Daugther" is our Soul. During life there is always something or someone who snatchs the soul out of our body drowning us in troubled waters.

Polly Jean is always a great Interpreter and a mysterious dreamer.

the man says "Just like my daughter" - it means that he has a daughter, maybe in the same age as that dead girl. He call her 'my lovely daughter" - maybe she was calling him as "daddy" - so weird, lol :D
"I heard her holler, I heard her moan" - she was screaming when he was killing her, maybe he had raped her as well, who knows...
"Little fish, big fish(...)gimme my daughter" - maybe he feels guilty, and wanna take everything back... - that's what I think

The man - about 40 maybe 50 years old is telling the story about killing his 'young girlfriend', which he had killed under the bridge and had pulled her body to the river.

That blue eyed girl, she said "No more" - she didn't want hanging out with that old guy anymore and doing with him all that 'dirty' stuff, that made her a "blue eyed whore".

what if the person isn't a mother - but a man?
