They do try to minimize injury to the horses by padding the walls and such at the dangerous spots. Also TB s are no longer aloud to race because of their more delicate nature. Many things have been changed over the years to protect the horses. The Palio is only held twice a year (with few practice runs) unlike ordinary racing, which is almost everyday around the world. The jockeys on the other hand, there is a reason so many of them have broken noses and such and it's not from falling off

Of COURSE the horses get hurt! Any fall for a horse is serious. A simple fall is enough for a horse to break ribs and/or legs. Add high speed going around a turn with a wall, and horses can -- and do -- suffer life-ending injuries at the Palio di Siena. And that's not even including getting trampled by the other horses. I'm not even commenting on whether they should or shouldn't do it, I'm just saying let's be honest about the fact that horses do get seriously injured and killed.

bella considerazione hanno l'italiani nel mondo e in europa e questo perchè principalmente siamo un paese d'ignoranti che apriamo bocca e lasciamo andare molti di voi commentano il palio di siena magari per aver visto due video su you tube, e credete di aver capito tutto, bene non c'avete capito niente!!! e sono sicuro che pochi di voi prima di rispondere a questo commento s'informeranno su come funziona il protocollo che siena ha fatto per i cavalli, e della clinica, del pensionario...
