excellent song - not often these days (within the last ten years) that songs can be rooted in such a context.
the vid ruins it. if the Manics had gone with perhaps a montage of stock footage, perhaps with some some film footage of Spanish Civil War veterans in old age... probably wouldn't've been very commercial. still, it'd made more sense - i just don't get this...

I agree. I think the video, with it's semi faceless sunbathers is trying to show that we are all potential targets of the US and western fascists despite our presumed individualism, lifestyle and disbelief that it could happen here.

This is my 3rd favourite ever song after The Everlasting and All is vanity. I don't really know what the songs about but there's some amazing lines in it that do strike a chord even if I dont get the overall meaning.

This song is about the Spanish Civil war & the international brigades that fought alongside Republican Spain Against Franco's Military rebel's.
The song Title is actually from a Republican poster of the time,of a dead child & a sky filled with Nationalist bombers airplanes.
The line about shooting rabbit's/facist's is also a direct quote from the war.
