I love XTC. I stumbled across them about 7 years ago while at university. It was one of those quirks, I was casually watching TOTP2 and Sgt Rock came on - there style, sound and awkward personas struck me and I checked them out. I am so glad I did!
Check out All You Pretty Girls, another great track. I think most XTC tracks don't instantly hit you, but listen a few times and they lodge in your head....you cannot get rid of them. Its annoying at times! Perhaps the mark of well crafted pop songs?
A long time ago in a country far far away, they were. Songs need a bit of something about them, be it cleverness or interesting musical structure, otherwise they don't really last the test of time.
@SuperSmitters and yet so many groups stole their sounds and had hits with them. When i first started listening to XTC the strangest thing was how familiar their music was. But it wasn't their music that i knew, it was someone else doing their ideas. The only time they ever borrowed someone else's signature sound was on English Roundabout. See if you can guess which band they're emulating (and very well i might add).

Songs catchy and clever, a bit too clever, perhaps why they were not a big hit?
