Mario Lanza - E Lucevan le Stelle

Wow, OK. I contrast this to Bocelli's performance. I love both these guys! But to put it shortly, Lanza gives me more communication here. I don't speak Italian so I only respond to the emotion. In that, I hear this as a story when Lanza sings, but not Bocelli. (In Bocelli's version he just seems ticked-off.) At about 1:45 Lanza makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up (a revelation in the story?). At about 3/4ths of the way thru I am jolted by tragedy, in the story. What a talent!

I totally agree with you jd1906sf. Mario Lanza is a great tenor and this is by far one of his best performances, hands down. Thank you Mario Lanza!!!

i played this song before every yankee world series game...and the yankees are world champs...thank you mario...

I too am amazed at some of the things people say jd1906, one may say they enjoy lanza, that he had a good throat, that he had a very successful career and on and on, but to concider him in the same league as Bjoerling, Caruso , Wunderich, is beyond rediculous. And I repeat, noone who knows anything about singing would say that Lanza is among the greatest tenors ever.
