lol hari goshi is sweeping hip as in a hip throw with a sweeping leg motion to lift the leg of the opponent its often on the outside in correct form but not exclusively as the throw is not called outside sweeping hip is it???... uchimata is the same form with out the hip as deep in and the sweeping leg makes contact with the back leg of the opponent if any ! as i said no uchimata here, so plz get a clue or maybe a kyu grade .........

for the last time, the video is entitled Uchi-mata because that's the technique Kosei Inoue said HE was demonstrating. It's irrelevant what grade I am, I filmed and uploaded the video, I was there when he demonstrated UCHI-MATA. This is the way the technique is taught in Japan and hopefully across the world. If you think you know better that him then good luck to you. Anyway I'm disabling comments on the video now, thanks for the interest even if you are wrong :-)

Ok, this is a perfect Uchi Mata. I agree, It's a very well done technique from a great champion. I admire Inoue and his "uchi mata". But I'm still not able to match this uchi mata with nage no kata uchi mata. I'm not so sure that we're talking about the same techniques. Surely, we're talking about top class Judo! And that's enought for me.

you're right but this is one variation of his, if you buy his dvd boxset it's got another 7 versions on it, one of which is more akin to the kata version

Around the 1 min mark I see how he enters by like charging up by throwing his foot back, Im just wondering if this is necessarily a bad thing because Ive been trying to break that habbit and I can see it being a problem in Shia

look at the way he throws at the start of the video. As he moves back he creates space with his arms and steps/skips back with his right leg before he turns in. This action therefore creates space and momentum and also helps the kuzushi. I believe 'throwing his foot back' as you describe is just to simulate that movement from a more static position.

Uchi-mata is translated as inner thigh but that can be of the near leg or far leg. For this version, Kosei teaches it attacking the far leg. He pulls to break balance (lots of empasis on this), steps in and aims to get hip contact with his right hip. He brings the left leg in bent, and then as he pulls he straigthens his left leg lifting his opponent with his hip. He then sweeps the right leg back, this then seems to act more as a counter balance as he completes the throw.

From my understanding, the classic version by a right handed player would be for tori to make contact with the back of his right thigh to the inside of uke's left thigh. The version Inoue does is a koshi waza and very similar to hane goshi.

Why does he stick his leg out at the end of the throw? If it only gets a wazari or yuko then your opponent can pull you down.

On a perfect Harai goshi, you are not supose to touch the opponent's leg actually, this was a Uchi Mata

This is the classic form of Uchi mata, there are some more variations.

hitting the thigh or directing the leg at a angle than straight up prevents that, i always thought on the street against a baddie, i would go for the leg to the groin then throw...more painfull lol

Oh dear. Uchi mata is inner thigh throw. Whether you do it in kata form or as Sensei Inoue does above makes no diffrence, it is still Uchi mata. Anyone who argues that Inoue is doing it wrong needs to take a good long look at their technique, slap themselves around the face and then wake up. Thanks to the uploader for the video, I was there and thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. The DVD boxset is awesome too.
