English Version:

The following is a compilation of different photos and videos taken on January 1, 2010 when we visited the Restaurante Los Aviones located at Barranquitas, P.R. I also present a little bit of the history of these airplanes. If you have the opportunity, I recommend you to visit the place, you will not regret.

The Douglas DC-3 with number N781T is the oldest of the 3 airplanes, manufactured in 1943. It had 2 Pratt & Whitney R-1830. Each engine was capable of producing up to 1350 horse power, and they where air cooled 14 cylinders radial engines with a displacement of 1830 cubic inches equal to 30 litters.

The Douglas DC-3 was used as a work horse to transport passengers, air freight and for military use. In World War II, some of them where reconfigured and the name was changed to Douglas C-47 Skytrain. There where rugged and reliable, ideal for landing on unpaved roads and grass fields, making them suitable for developing places. These planes have been in service since 1935 and revolutionized the way we travel in airplanes today.

The Convair 440 with number N912AL was manufactured in 1956 to compete with the Douglas DC-3 in the efficiency, aerodynamic and comfort department. They had a pressurized cabin and other options that the DC-3 didn't had. It had 2 Pratt & Whitney R-2800. Each engine was capable of producing up to 2850 horse power, and they where air cooled 18 cylinders radial engines with a displacement of 2804 cubic inches thats equal to 46 litters.

I hope you enjoy the images of these fine airplanes which I consider is one of the engineering marvels since they managed to do so much with so little resources and they have endured so many years of service.
