Knowing that building on illegal occupied settlements will cause conflict why does Israel continue to do so?

The settlements don't cause conflict:

Arabs attacked Jews before Israel existed (pre-1948), after Israel existed but before there were settlements (1948-1967), and after Israel tore down settlements and gave all of Gaza to the Palestinians (2005-present).
Settlements don't cause conflict; terrorists do.

nonsense, continuous land grabs, claiming land that belongs to the Palestinians, restricting their movement, segregating them from the public and building a wall on their land does PROMOTE or even show the strive for peace.

Restrictions and other security measures were introduced following Arab violence. If Arabs want those measures reduced they should reduce their acts of violence.
One can desire peace while exercising his right to self-defense.

Baseless well one can easily come up with this frivolous assumption if your only news source is Israeli or right wing propaganda like FOX.

Just attempt to read other sources and you will see how this "baseless" claim has a LOT more "base" then you first regarded.
