(Live Mahube Version)
From the album 'Neria' (Sheer Sound, 2002)
& 'The Oliver Mtukudzi Collection / The Tuku Years'
This is a rendition of the theme song to a film that Tuku starred in and composed the soundtrack for.
Mahube, a collective of Southern African musicians led by Steve Dyer that Oliver regularly performs with, recorded this live version.
For many women in Zimbabwe and much of Africa, the death of a husband is a double blow.
They go through the pain loosing a loved one, then they face the horror of being dispossessed of the
matrimonial property by the relatives of the husband.
In this song, Tuku addresses Neria, a widow. He points out that women are treated like slaves, with no right to property and with no one to care for them. Tuku encourages the widow to be strong in the face her tribulations.
