His name is John Lambert aka Chequerboard. He supported Jóhann Jóhannsson in Dublin on July 18th as part of that weekend's annual Analog Music Festival. He quietly came out & sat down without any fanfare or introductions & just started weaving these wonderful melodies with his acoustic guitar & computer, creating his own subtle looping backing tracks live in real time, something new & captivating to me for one. The sublime soundscapes he created were an unexpected but very welcome aural pleasure on the night. I only wish I'd recorded all four songs he performed, but I'm glad I at least captured this one...enjoy.
Recorded at the chq building on Custom House Quay, Dublin.

hey that's my nephew ! named 19th most important artist in Ireland right now by the Irish Times. (or was it 18th?) He makes my standard pentatonic lead noodlings seem pedantic by comparison. A true original. Good luck at the Electric Picnic, John.
Its a bit more complex than zanders cover, but both versions sound so great I don't think I could choose which is better. I have been trying to find an album by chequerboard but the most I can find is mp3s on amazon and itunes you can download no actual cd. Does anyone know if it exists and where I can buy it?
This one was a work in progress according to John when I filmed it, & no doubt will turn up on some future release. His last CD though "Penny Black" is well worth getting...
