Yea, Im sure theres some flashy person that would win it now. But do you think they could win it 9 times. She won it one year on tenor banjo. Eileen is the most decorated fiddler of all time. That is sweet. I hope you guys who havent seen her in concert, get to see her. And for you guys that have, you know what I mean.
I really don't think this could win now. Not flashy enough. The players at the "world competition" are so much more technical now. She played sweetly though.
I wouldn't call her style pretentious...just overly flash and not my fav...you still can't say that she isn't a good player though. And tomcoen the best would be Frankie Gavin - end of discussion!
Eileen was brilliant then.... and she's brilliant now. I have seen her perform many times, along with many other wonderful Irish musicians. Her spirit and love of music is the furthest thing from pretense.
