An t-amhrán is ansa liom go deo. Is dóigh nach bhfuil a macasamháil ann i measc na mílte amhráin ar fáil inniú. Tá rud i leith an fíorghrá fite sna focail nach cloistear (dar liom) in aon amhrán eile. Agus nach ait aoibhinn go dtosnaíonn sé le 'Agus'... Is fada linn uainn thú a Mhichíl.

This song has always made me cry when I listen to it closely. The tenderness of his voice and the time he gives the piece so that the full feeling of it comes out is just beautiful. -- Ireland for so long was a place where tender feelings were known and could be expressed in music. God bless Micheal O'Domhnaill, his voice is greatly missed.

I have always loved this song. It is beautiful, and it depicts perfectly the soul of what a song is.

Part 2 of 2

...And what dead cat (misfortune) that directed me to this place?
There's many a girl in the village that I left behind
Because of a fight and a quarrel and something that wasn't even true
Musha, a silly hag and her daughter that had no sense

I'd plough and plant the seed deep in the soil
And I'd drive the cows to the fields where the tallest grass grows
I'd shoe a horse that was the nicest and fastest ever
And a woman would elope with a man who wouldn't even do that"
