Ilfrasca......is there a street party in Rio during carnaval? I've been a bit apprehensive about going to Rio for carnaval because it looks more like a spectator event, than something u can partake in.

I will be in Salvador for carnaval, but am interested in learning if you can party in the streets of Rio?

There are some street celebrations (blocos) in Rio too but the main event is the parade.

If you are looking for street parties then Salvador is the place to be.

There are several parades in Sambodromo and the main ones are the 2 nights when top samba schools run for the championship. And yes, you need to pay for the entry ticket.

Beija-flor literally means "flower kisser" and it's the portuguese for hummingbird. Keep dancing ... :o)
